FAQ

- What is PEF?
The Peninsula Education Foundation (PEF) raises money to supplement the discrepancy between State funding and actual expenses needed to educate a child within our district. It is a philanthropic organization dedicated to raising money for Peninsula schools.  All money raised by PEF stays in the Peninsula district and benefits the children in the Peninsula schools.

- Why do we need to donate to public schools?
The short version goes like this:  In the early 1970’s, a court decision removed local control of school funding and relocated that control to the state level.  Base funding was established for every district by state legislators.  Due to the PVPUSD’s fiscally conservative spending at that time, they were deemed a “low-wealth” school district, which means they receive less than the state average in per-pupil ADA (average daily attendace) funds.  Then, in 1978, Proposition 13 passed and school funding was severely cut.  Since then, there has been a significant gap between what we received from the state and what it takes to educate our children.
